ブライアン・イーノ先生の最新DVD作品『77 million paintings』が届いた。といってもこの作品、本体はPC/Mac用のソフトウェアなので、普通のDVDプレーヤでは見られない。データとして収められた大量のイメージや音声をソフトウェアがランダムに選択し合成していく作品だ。即興的とも言えるのかもしれない。デジタル記録メディアは高度な再現性以上のなにものかにもなり得るということかな。始まりはあるが終わりのない作品。とても今日的な感じがして、アートの一形態としておもしろい。「この世にはデータベースとシステムしか存在しない」と誰かが言っていたが、そんな感覚を抱かせる作品だ。壁掛けPCでもあれば、ずっと流していたい。めっちゃ催眠効果あり。パソコンがスリープするか、自分がスリープするか。
テレビは：
速すぎる
遅すぎる
暗すぎる
明るすぎる
派手すぎる
地味すぎる現在のテレビの持つ真義ではなく、その真義の裏側を仮定してみる
テレビとは光をコントロールするためのもの
イメージとはコントロールされた光の一部
物語はイメージの一部テレビとは光の最適な動き
テレビを光のエンターテイメントと考える情報と刺激とは切り離せない
「エフェクト」をテレビに追加されたものとして考えるのはやめよう
現在は端にあるものも、いずれは中心となる

後に明らかになるものなんだ未来のテレビは単純な機器で造られ

資格のない人々によって

テレビはシネマの代わりに創られ、そしてシアターの代わりとして成長した。教養、連続性、そして物語が結合したシアター特有の価値は、今日までテレビ文化を支配してきた。シアターの特徴的な映像空間は小さなスクリーンになっても損なわれてはいない。
テレビについて他の見解があるとしたら？２０世紀後半の絵画であるとは考えられないだろうか？これまでのテレビにおける短い歴史の中で試されてきた可能性を除外する必要はないんだ。むしろ、テレビは現在の新しいビジュアル・カルチャーの中心であり、歴史的に見ても素晴らしい考案であることを再評価する必要がある。

I bought "77 million paintings" the Brian Eno's latest DVD.Even though this is DVD,cannot play on the DVD player.Because it's just software for Mac or PC.This software select one and four painted compornents and sound layer from database,and show us they are mixed on a screen and speakers.That's kind of improvisational work..Digital recording media can beyond something just highly-reproducible.It has start point,but no end point.It's interesting as one of the forms of modern art.I find the sensation like someone's saying that "There are nothing but databases and systems in this world".I want to play all day if I have a wall shelving PC.And this is very hypnotic.Have you slept? or your PC's slept?
TV is:
Too fast
Too slow
Too dull
Too bright
Too brash

Narratives are subset of imagesTV is the movement of light in time
Think of TV as light entertainmentInformation and simulus

Television was developed as a substitute for cinema,which was developed as a substitute for the theatre.The values of the theatre - literacy,continuity and narrative conherence - to this day dominate the culture of television.The pictorial space of the theatre remains intact on the small screen.
What about another way of thinking about TV?Why not regard it as the late 20th century's way of making paintings?YOu don't have to preclude any of the possiblities that have been explored in TV's short history,but instead you re-evaluate them as part of a more inspiring historical conception - television as th new,living centre of contemporary visual culture.Brian Eno 1991
